Generation H₂O is Scottish Water’s flagship education programme, designed to inspire young people to value water, understand its role in society, and explore careers in the sector. It’s a free, curriculum-linked resource for schools across Scotland, supporting teachers to deliver engaging lessons on water, sustainability, and STEM.
The programme includes:
- Interactive lesson plans and classroom activities
- Videos and animations explaining the water cycle, treatment processes, and climate impact
- Real-life case studies of water professionals
- Opportunities for school visits, talks, and site tours
Generation H₂O is aimed at upper primary and lower secondary pupils (P6–S2), but resources can be adapted for other age groups. It’s designed to spark curiosity, build awareness, and show how water connects to everything - from public health and the environment to engineering and innovation.
Teachers can access the materials online or request printed packs. The programme also links to wider initiatives like DYW (Developing the Young Workforce) and STEM Nation, helping schools meet their career education goals.
By introducing water careers early, Generation H₂O helps build a pipeline of future talent. It shows pupils that the sector is full of variety, purpose, and opportunity - and that they could be part of it.
